Facial hair is understandably the bane of the existence for men's grooming. Most men will often agree that having to shave three or four times a week is bothersome and time consuming and can often lead to problems, depending on shaving habits. These problems can range from person to person depending on things such as diet, genes, as well as testosterone and even climate. Shaving too often usually results in more easy to treat things like razor burn, ingrown hairs, whiteheads, or even permanent things such as scarring. One thing I would like to stress right off the bat is to never, ever use depilatories such as Nair or any of the other creams on your face. This will ruin your complexion and lead to lots of acne, and is not good for you one bit. Steer clear of these in all regards.
To properly handle and maintain your facial hair, get an idea of your complexion. If you have oily skin, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, oily skin is a little easier to maintain in the long run. This by no means is to say that you should start eating more cheeseburgers and pizza in order to achieve a grease-face, but if your diet dictates that your face has a little bit of natural oil, that your facial hair will be a little more brill and you have less of a chance of ingrown hairs and acne after shaving, and you don't have to shave as close. One or two times a week of shaving will probably do you well, but don't overdo or overlook your gift! Naturally oily faces have the advantage of being able to use electric razors such as the more inexpensive Norelco styles without much fuss.
If you live in a climate that causes you to have drier skin on your face, you may be better off keeping some facial hair, and if not, consider your options of trying to grow a beard for a few months so that your face gets accustomed to having a little more oil. Remember, oil is not necessarily bad for your face. If your face is naturally oily, you will be able to shave less frequently, removal of the hair will be easier and you have less of a chance of developing some of the short term nasties such as whiteheads or acne. If you can accustom your face to having a little bit more natural oil, once you begin to shave more frequently and more and more times a week, you lessen your chances of acne or ingrown hairs, which is the worst part of shaving normally. Start off with one of the multi-blade razors, like the Mach 5, cutting downwards, not up like most analog razors recommend. This is considered unorthodox, but cutting with the grain with the manual razors in this fashion gets your dry skin accustomed to normal maintenance and opens a new world of grooming to you with electric razors.
For moderately oily skin, shaving two or three times a week is considered ideal for shaving. I believe that most societies have become more lax about what is considered apropos in terms of good hygiene. That is to say that the 'five o'clock shadow' has become more commonplace if it becomes six or seven without people thinking you might look like a slob. In my experience, even the ladies aren't as turned off as you might think by a little scruff. It can show that a man is more secure with himself, without it seeming like he is simply 'letting himself go'. As Alexander Pope said, 'To err is human, to forgive divine'. The same applies for your face, and more that I can explain within the pages of this website. I hope these facial hair removal tips will help you.
