It's of my opinion that it takes a special type of man to be able to accept the responsibility of having a bald head by choice, that is, to regularly shave your head. To have a nice shaped head is definitely a plus, while I can say that I have only done this once, I can certainly give some good tips for shaving your head and suggest a few good products for shaving your head. As I said, this style is not for everybody. However, I feel that it's important to outline a few good grooming habits for shaving your head and keeping it shaved easily. Not that head shaving is that different for men and women but this article was written mainly for men.
Remember to keep your head wet and clean in preparing and getting ready to shave. The best time to do this is after a bath or a shower. If your hair is wet, it will be much easier to manage while shaving and you will get a more even cut. Make sure to not go over the same area more than once or twice, and maintain as much of an 'effective stroke' as possible. Try to not nitpick in taking your major strokes, you can always go back and gently clean up. Going over the same area will increase the chance of razor bumps, or psuedofolliculitis barbae. I'll get into treating and preventing that in separate sections.

You may also want to avoid double or triple blade razors like the more advanced Schick and Gilettes at first, go for a simple single blade razor to learn your way. These are somewhat ineffective for shaving an area such as your head because of how easily they get dirty. Personal preference is up to you, my choice would be the Bic sensitive single blade shavers. If head shaving works for you, you may prefer to use a traditional straight razor, or you might prefer an electric razor. Everybody will have a different preference for their favorite razor for shaving the head. One thing that is important is to replace your blades regularly. Aim to replace them every time you shave your head if you can, and don't shave it more frequently than every 3 to 4 days. Make sure to read the section on preventing and treating razor burn and bumps for more on how to take care of your razors as well, and FOR NO REASON SHOULD YOU EVER USE DEPILATORIES ON YOUR HEAD!
When you shave, let your skin stay relaxed, don't stretch it. Doing this increases the chance of the hair going below the skin level, and causing icky ingrown hairs and razor burn. Using a good shaving lubricant is also very important in order to reduce friction or irritation. You should try and work your choice in pretty heavily before you begin shaving, for at least a few minutes. Don't be shy! Take a good bit of time, it will only improve your cut. While most people may tell you otherwise, for head shaving I believe baby oil is the best thing to use. In shaving your head you can sometimes use a quarter of a bottle of more expensive gels or creams until you learn your way. In the long term your head will thank you for using baby oil, which is a great shaving lubricant. It's also widely available and fairly inexpensive. Your mileage may vary. Give it a try and see how you like it.
If you are looking for an electric razor for shaving your head, I have to give the recommendation to the Norelco Advantage electric shaver, hands down. This is a good razor for men overall. Norelco razors have always provided me with the best blade mechanics of all the razors I've tried. They are easy to clean, and replace, and more often than not are less expensive in recent years than other razors. They are also Dual Voltage, 110v to 240v, which means you can use them anywhere in the world as long as you have a prong converter. The advantage to the Advantage, so to speak, is that this razor has a built in shaving cream dispenser and is a very effective handheld electric razor to use for shaving your head, your face, anywhere-the total package, in just a little bit more of the time that it would take with a regular analog straight razor, right? Right. You have less of a change of getting nasty razor burn on your head with this razor. It's a great option in shaving your head. It teaches you to spend a little bit longer, which is absolutely necessary for this type of hair removal. It gives a great, close shave and the price is very affordable, take a look on Ebay for them. Replacement parts are readily available and can usually be found at a fraction of retail price at outlet stores and online.
Shaving your head takes more practice than shaving any other part of your body, this goes for both men and women, I'd say even including the twig and berries. You have to be extra careful and a lot of the routine involved in it stems from not over shaving or shaving too closely. If you get into the routine and away from the habit, and keep your choice of razor clean, and use a good amount of lubrication, you should have no problems having a beautiful bald head.
